About

J Suyi is a London based mixed media artist whose work explores colour, perception and emotion through intuitive abstraction. Her artistic journey began unexpectedly at a retreat when she shared with the retreat leader that, whenever she closed her eyes, she saw bursts of colour, light and movement. Encouraged to explore these internal visions, she began translating them into paint. What started as curiosity evolved into a lifelong creative practice and remains at the heart of her work today.

Since 2018, the self taught artist has been creating bold, expressive works that balance intention with spontaneity. Her paintings are rich in texture and movement, where pigments flow, layers intertwine and form gives way to feeling. Drawing on intuition, memory and emotion, she creates work that invites reflection, connection and a sense of possibility.

A British artist of Nigerian heritage, J Suyi's creative path has been anything but conventional. Prior to building her artistic practice, she completed multiple degrees at Bachelor's and Master's level, gained professional qualifications in IT and Financial Services, and built a successful corporate career. She also owned and operated an art gallery, giving her a unique perspective on both the creative and commercial sides of the art world.

Her work spans painting, mixed media and functional art. Across different collections, she incorporates materials such as drawing pins (thumb tacks) and real flowers, creating richly textured pieces that blur the boundaries between painting, sculpture and object. Whether working on canvas, wood, mirrors or furniture, each piece is created to evoke emotion, spark conversation and become part of the viewer's own story.

While much of her work is rooted in abstraction, capturing fleeting sensations and emotional landscapes, J Suyi has expanded her practice beyond the canvas into functional art. Her Home Décor and Gift Collection applies the same bold use of colour, texture and materiality to everyday objects, blurring the boundaries between fine art and design. Alongside her abstract works, the collection also features abstract floral and seascape designs, bringing her distinctive visual language to a collection of one of a kind pieces that bring creativity, character and individuality into the spaces people live with every day.

Her work has been exhibited across the UK, USA, Germany and Switzerland and is held in private collections in more than 30 countries, including the UK, USA, Australia, Europe, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong. She continues to collaborate with corporate and creative partners through exhibitions and projects that celebrate individuality, creativity and the transformative power of art.
